EAST DUBUQUE, IL, October 3, 2011 — Crescent Electric Supply Company, a top 10 U.S. electrical distribution company, will receive the Illinois Family Business of the Year Award for Community Service at a ceremony on November 29 in Chicago. Presented by the Family Business Center of Loyola University Chicago, the Community Service Award recognizes Crescent Electric and its owners, the Schmid family, for their positive impact on the community.
The culture of community service at Crescent Electric is exemplified, in part, by the Schmid family’s establishment of the Crescent Community Health Center (www.crescentchc.org), a public/private partnership located in Dubuque, Iowa. The facility serves the healthcare needs of more than 6,000 individuals in the tri-state area of Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa who would not otherwise have access to healthcare. Crescent Community Health Center was named in honor of Crescent Electric employees (past and present).
Crescent Electric was founded by Titus B. Schmid in 1919 with a single warehouse in Dubuque, IA. Ninety-two years later the company has grown to 120 locations in 26 states, employs more than 1,500 people, and is still owned by the Schmid family. The corporate headquarters was moved to its present location in East Dubuque, Illinois in 1969.
Speaking of his grandfather’s legacy, Crescent Electric senior vice president Dick Schmid commented “Our Company was built on the concept of providing local service and it’s only natural that we give back to the communities that have helped us grow and prosper. In addition to major projects like Crescent Community Health Center, our employees dedicate thousands of hours each year to local community service organizations and projects. From both a corporate and private perspective, it’s the right thing to do”.
“We are honored to receive the Community Service Award”, Schmid continued, “and accept it on behalf of the family and employees of Crescent Electric”.
